Summer Educational Opportunities for Students
MathScience Innovation Center
Camp Innovation is our wildly successful summer program for students in grades 4 through 9. During July and August, students have the opportunity to attend classes at the MathScience Innovation Center and/or at John Tyler Community College (Midlothian and Chester campuses).
Also, beginning August 8th, we are offering a brand new two-week intensive course in aquaponics for rising 11th and 12th grade students. From Tank to Table will integrate coursework and fieldwork experiences focused on environmental stewardship and aquaculture, as students study the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, fisheries science, aquaculture system design and implementation, water chemistry, culinary artistry, and the biology of oysters, tilapia and trout. At the conclusion of the class, four students will be able to apply for a one-week paid summer internship at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. Other students will be afforded shadowing opportunities with some of our partner organizations, such as Rappahannock River Oysters, the Culinary Center of Richmond, Virginia State University and the James River Ecology School.
