During the Prince George School Board’s meeting on May 23, 2022, the board’s criteria regarding the design of new elementary attendance boundaries were, to the greatest extent possible, to:
  • Minimize the number of students affected in boundary changes
  • Assign students to their closest school
  • Distribute the students in military families among all elementary schools equitably
  • Balance enrollment among all schools in a way to limit the likelihood of future changes
  • Balance the demographics (race, ethnicity, socio-economics) at all schools
  • Do not impact students currently attending William A. Walton Elementary School

How were people able to share input in this process?
In May 2022, the division's balanced enrollment project partner, Cooperative Strategies, launched their website that provided background information, a school locator map, and other resources for stakeholders as part of the project.

This website has been accessible through the division’s main website and posted regularly to social media. Throughout the spring into the fall, regular updates were provided to the Prince George School Board during their meetings.

After preliminary options were determined, the options were then presented to the public in the form of online surveys that were distributed via the division's website and School Messenger phone calls and email messages, online focus groups, and the community was invited to in-person meetings to provide input and answer any questions.

The information gleaned from these conversations with stakeholders was provided to the Prince George School Board leading up to their approval of Option 2C as the model for Prince George County Public Schools' elementary attendance boundaries on January 19, 2023.

How did the District communicate with families about this process?
When Cooperative Strategies launched their elementary boundary adjustment project website in the spring of 2022, the division created articles and digital content aimed at sharing the website’s resources and information with our stakeholders.

In the fall of 2022, Prince George County Public Schools sent a series of School Messenger emails and telephone calls throughout September and October to division families and staff. These communications were focused on soliciting comment and feedback from stakeholders on preliminary boundary options and to encourage participation in planned community meetings.

Additionally, social media posts were made on the division's Facebook page during this timeframe and fliers with scannable QR codes were posted in each school's main office for parents to access the online survey form during the comment period.

Prince George County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa Pennycuff and Cooperative Strategies publicly presented information about the division's elementary attendance boundary project at several school board meetings throughout the life of the project dating back to Spring 2022.

Presentations from the division and Cooperative Strategies are available on the division's BoardDocs meeting records platform and Cooperative Strategies' website.

This map allows families to enter their address into the online form and learn which school their child has been assigned to for the 2023-24 School Year.

Staff from each school were also provided lists to verify assignments and direct families to their correct schools for the upcoming year.
