Prince George High School’s Chris Waugaman Recognized as National Scholastic Press Association Pioneer Award Recipient

Nov. 20, 2020 - Prince George High School Journalism/Yearbook/Broadcast Advisor and educator Chris Waugaman has been named the recipient of the National Scholastic Press Association Pioneer Award, the organization’s highest honor, in recognition of Waugaman’s decades-long commitment to mentoring the next generation of journalists.

Prince George County Public Schools Leads Commonwealth in Outfitting School Bus Fleet with HEPA Filtration Systems

Nov. 3, 2020 - Prince George County Public Schools has become one of the first school divisions in the commonwealth to outfit nearly its entire fleet of school buses with state-of-the-art air filtration systems that can remove contaminants from the air protecting students and drivers.

Nov. 2, 2020 - Prince George County’s Public Schools’ Free Meals Program will continue through the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year following action by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that extended a number of flexibilities to program operators, allowing them to continue serving free meals to children well into next year.

PGCPS Delights Local Elementary Students and Families During Storybook Character Drive-Thru Parade Event

Oct. 30, 2020 - Prince George County Public Schools, in partnership with the James River Junior Woman’s Club, a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, were able to bring the fun of trick-or-treating safely to hundreds of the county’s elementary-aged students during a special Storybook Character Drive-Thru Parade event at Prince George High School Thursday evening.

Prince George County Public Schools to Receive $1 Million in CARES Act Funding from State

Oct. 26, 2020 - Prince George County Public Schools is expected to receive $1 million in federal Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding from the state following Governor Ralph Northam's announcement of funding disbursements aimed at helping K-12 public schools in Virginia.

Harrison, Walton Elementary Receive Purple Star Designation For Excellence in Supporting Military Families

Oct. 22, 2020 - Prince George County Public Schools’ David A. Harrison and William A. Walton Elementary Schools have been selected to receive the 2020 Virginia Purple Star Designation from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on the Educational Opportunity of Military Children in recognition of both schools' commitment to serving students and families connected to the military.

Newly Released State Data Shows Over 93 Percent of PGCPS’ Class of 2020 Graduated on Time 

Oct. 8, 2020 - Newly released data from the Virginia Department of Education has revealed Prince George County Public Schools’ on-time graduation rate rose to 93 percent in 2020, with more than nine out of ten students who entered the ninth grade during the 2016-2017 school year earning a diploma and graduating from high school within four years.

N.B. Clements. Jr. High School Teacher Ms. Jenny Powers Selected As Drs. Singh & Bhuller Tri-Cities Outstanding Educator of the Year 

Sept. 15, 2020 - Prince George County Public Schools is proud to announce N.B. Clements Junior High School Algebra 1 teacher Ms. Jenny Powers was named the recipient of the 2020 Drs. Singh and Bhuller Tri-Cities Outstanding Educator of the Year Award from The John Randolph Foundation, which recognizes outstanding educators in the community and motivates them to enhance their teaching skills.

PGCPS to Receive $1.5 Million in Additional CARES Act Funding from Prince George County to Support School Division Needs 

Sept. 11, 2020 - Prince George County Public Schools is due to receive approximately $1.5 million in additional Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding from the Prince George County Board of Supervisors to help support a wide range of the school division’s current needs, including technological and health-related spending.

PGCPS Safely Resumes In-Person Instruction at All County Schools As 2020-2021 School Year Begins 

Sept. 8, 2020 - Prince George County Public Schools safely opened the 2020-2021 school year Tuesday as students returned to class both virtually and in-person at the district’s nine schools with measures in place aimed at protecting the health of students and staff.
