Guest Experience: Health, Safety & Security

    • Ensuring our students, families, and community have a safe and enjoyable time during our commencement exercises is a top priority for Prince George High School. As such, out of an abundance of caution, additional safety protocols have been implemented for Friday’s ceremony for guests entering the stadium:
      • In accordance with Prince George County School Board policy, bags MUST BE CLEAR and NO LARGER than 12x6x12, a small clutch purse (5x7 or smaller, clutch does not have to be clear), or a gallon Ziploc bag. Items related to medical needs will be permitted.

        • View permitted / non-approved items info HERE.
      • Guests are encouraged to leave bags and purses larger than those permitted in the stadium in the vehicles.
      • All guests will be screened with object detectors before entry to the stadium. Graduates will be screened before entering the Prince George High School gymnasium with walkthrough detectors.
      • Gates will open at 7:30 a.m., 90 minutes before the ceremony starts, to allow ample time for these protocols to be carried out so guests can comfortably settle in for Friday’s festivities.
    • All guests of Prince George High School's commencement exercises are expected to behave in a manner conducive to the ceremony's formality. As we celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates with their families, friends, and community, please keep the following expectations in mind:
      • All children Grades PK-8 must be accompanied by an adult.
      • Strollers will be permitted in the stadium, but cannot block spectators.
      • No noisemakers, coolers, balloons, or gift bags are allowed in the stadium. Guests should keep these items in their vehicles.
      • Bikes, skateboards, or roller skates are not allowed inside the stadium.
      • Smoking, vaping, or other electronic smoking, alcohol, tobacco of any kind, and all drugs and weapons are prohibited on school property.
      • Umbrellas may be used on the top row of seating only, not to obstruct the view of others.
      • No signs as they may block the view of others.
      • No chairs are permitted other than stadium seats.
      • No diaper bags. Please refer to the bag guidelines.
  • As this is an outdoor ceremony, guests and graduates are encouraged to keep the following outdoor event tips in mind for Friday’s event:
    • Stay Hydrated: Drink water before and during the ceremony to ensure your body has ample water to avoid dehydration. Bottled water will be available for graduates and guests at the stadium free of charge.
    • Dress for the Weather: Guests should consider wearing light-colored, breathable, loose clothing for the ceremony, hats, or sunglasses.
    • Apply Sunscreen: Ultraviolet radiation is extreme during the summer, and it can take as little as 11 minutes in the midday sun to get sunburned. Choose a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater.

Inclement Weather Plan

  • In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be delayed in one-hour increments up until 4 p.m. If weather appears to prevent the event from taking place outdoors, the decision will be made and announced by 4 p.m. to move the event indoors with a 6 p.m. start time.
  • In case of an indoor rain event, tickets will be required for all guests. Graduates will receive five tickets to use for the indoor rain event.

Recessional

  • Graduates have worked alongside school administrators to plan their graduation festivities. One of their requests is to complete a final walk, saying goodbye to their teachers and listening to their senior song.
  • In order to honor their wishes, a traditional recessional of graduates will occur after the ceremony.
  • This year, all students will recess back to the high school to receive their diplomas. Guests are asked to be patient and wait for the announcement to be made releasing guests to meet their graduates at the high school following the recessional.
  • Guests should follow traffic directions of staff on premises to safely meet their graduates following the recessional.
