Military Families

Supporting Our Military-Connected Community

Welcome to Prince George County Public Schools' Military Families webpage. This page provides information and resources for our military-connected families. PGCPS is proud to serve the educational needs of military-connected students and families of U.S. military service members stationed at Fort Gregg-Adams, where approximately 70,000 soldiers are trained annually, according to the U.S. Army's data.

In past school years, nearly one-third of the district's total enrollment included children of military-connected parents and guardians.
Background
According to U.S. Department of Defense data, of the 2.1 million military personnel serving America, 38 percent were either single parents or married and raising children, accounting for 1.5 million military children aged 0 to 18-years-old. Of these children, nearly three-quarters fall in the age range of 0 to 11 years old, and 56 percent range from 6 to 18 years old.

U.S. Department of Education data shows more than 80 percent of military children attend public schools. Additionally, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) reports more than 79,000 military-connected students reside and attend public schools across the Commonwealth.

Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children
The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children is a law that has been adopted by all 50 states and Department of Defense Educational Activity (DoDEA schools).

The law applies to the receiving state. To exercise provisions, parents must be on active military orders. This does not extend to Department of Defense (DoD) civilians or DoD contractors.
