WELCOME TO WINTER SPORTS SEASON, PG!
The 2025 Winter Sports Season is fast approaching, and we want you to use this guide to mark your calendars for tryout dates for basketball, courtside cheer, swimming, indoor track, and wrestling.
Review the following information to be sure you're ready to take part in what promises to be an exciting season of sports in Prince George County!
Eligibility Information
To be eligible to participate in sports, student-athletes and families are encouraged to review the following criteria:
- A current VHSL physical uploaded to the Athletic Portal after May 1st, 2025.
- Physicals must be uploaded by November 8th, 2025. The Athletic Portal will be closed on this date.
- Students must pass the equivalent of 5 courses from the spring semester.
- Students must be enrolled in the equivalent of 5 courses for the fall semester.
- 8th graders can try out for JV and middle school sports teams.
- 6th and 7th-graders can only participate in middle school sports teams.

Practices for all sports will begin daily following tryouts. Coaches will share sport-specific calendars to communicate schedules.
Mandatory Athlete-Parent Meeting: November 17, 2025
There is a Mandatory Athlete and Parent meeting in the PGHS Auditorium on Monday, November 17th at 6:00 pm for all Varsity and Jr. Varsity winter teams. Sport-specific meetings will immediately follow.
Here are the dates and locations for tryouts for each sport. (Student-Athletes are expected to attend tryouts in their entirety. Any exceptions must be approved by the head coach in advance).
Tryout Information, By Sport
- Boys Basketball: JV and Varsity Boys Basketball tryouts will be Nov. 10th, 11th, & 12th, 3:00 pm-5:00 pm. Tryouts will be held in Prince George High School Gymnasium.
- Middle School Boys Basketball: Tryouts will occur November 10th through the 14th from 3:00–5:00 pm at JEJ Moore Middle School. Only 6th graders report on November 10th. 7th graders should report on November 11th.
- Girls Basketball: JV and Varsity girls basketball tryouts will occur on November 10th, 12th, and 13th from 3:00–5:00 pm at NB Clements Gym.
- Courtside Cheer: Tryouts will occur Nov. 10th, 11th, and 12th from 3:00–5:00 pm in the Auxiliary Gym at PGHS.
- Swim: Tryouts will occur Nov. 10th and 13th from 5:30-7:30 at Daniel Gymnasium on the VSU campus (there will be a rep there to assist with sizing of suits)
- Boys and Girls Indoor Track: Tryouts will occur on November 10th and 12th from 3:00–5:00 pm at the PGHS Stadium.
- Wrestling: Tryouts will occur November 10th through 15th from 3:00–5:00 pm at the PGHS Fieldhouse.
