PGCPS Athletic Hall of Fame Selects Individuals to be Inducted During April 11 Ceremony

Prince George County Public Schools recently completed its selection of individuals who will serve as the latest additions to the Prince George County Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame. Since 2021, the district's hall of fame highlights the growing list of Prince George County products that have significantly contributed to athletics within our community and beyond over the years.

Continuing what has become a tradition for our community, this year's class features icons of Prince George County whose names and accomplishments while wearing Prince George High School's green-and-gold colors continue to be shared years after they took their last step on a PGHS athletic field. This year's class is as follows:

  • Jackie Bradley, Jr.: A standout at the University of South Carolina and the 2010 College World Series Most Outstanding Player, Mr. Bradley went on to be selected 40th overall by the Boston Red Sox in 2011 before making his Major League debut in 2013. Over his career, he played for the Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Kansas City Royals, earning recognition as a 2016 All-Star, the 2018 American League Championship Series MVP, and a 2018 Gold Glove recipient. He now continues his involvement in the sport as an SEC baseball commentator.
  • Reggie Williams: An impact basketball player for VMI and later multiple NBA teams, Mr. Williams remains the school’s all-time scoring leader after leading the nation in scoring in both 2007 and 2008. His exceptional collegiate career earned him a place on the Big South All-Freshman Team in 2005, two First Team All-Big South honors, and ultimately the retirement of his No. 55 jersey. Mr. Williams also excelled professionally, becoming a two-time NBA D-League All-Star (2010, 2017) and earning First Team All NBA D-League recognition in 2010.
  • Russell Smelley: A distinguished track and field athlete for the University of Richmond, Mr. Smelley set seven school records during his collegiate career and earned All-American honors in 1976. A three-time NCAA Indoor National Qualifier and competed for the USA Indoor National team in 1978 in Milano, Italy. Mr. Smelley went on to be inducted into both the University of Richmond Hall of Fame and the NAIA Cross Country Hall of Fame and was awarded the NAIA National Coach of Character award in 2015. Beyond his competitive achievements, he also made a lasting impact on the sport by helping establish the women’s cross country and track and field programs at the University of Richmond and later at Westmont College.
  • Emily Fletcher: Serving as head coach of the Northwestern University golf program, Ms. Fletcher is a national champion and one of the most accomplished coaches in collegiate golf. A six-time Big Ten Coach of the Year, she has guided Northwestern to 16 consecutive NCAA Championship appearances and secured three Big Ten Conference titles. Her leadership and sustained excellence were further recognized with her selection as the 2024–2025 Division I Jackie Steinmann National Coach of the Year.
  • Ariel Stephenson: Competing for both Wake Forest University and George Washington University, Ms. Stephenson surpassed the 1,000-point milestone during her career at Wake Forest and earned All-Academic and All-Rookie honors. She now serves as an assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Richmond and was recently recognized nationally as a member of the 2025 WBCA Thirty Under 30 list.
  • Bob Wood: Serving as founder of the Prince George Youth Wrestling Program in 1992 and launching the Royal Kids Classic youth tournament two years later, Mr. Wood helped establish a strong foundation for local wrestling. Over a coaching and officiating career that spanned more than 30 years, he became a nationally respected wrestling official and served as treasurer of the Virginia chapter of USA Wrestling, leaving a lasting impact on the sport across the region and beyond.
  • Pat Waguespack: Enjoying a coaching career spanning more than 35 seasons in both softball and football, Mr. Waguespack earned a total of 449 career wins—255 at Prince George High School and 194 at Dinwiddie High School. His teams captured three Regional Championships, nine District Championships, and four Central District Tournament titles, reflecting his long-standing impact and success in high school athletics.
  • Bill Russell: Having dedicated nearly 30 years to Prince George County Public Schools as a basketball coach, Mr. Russell guided his teams to five district championships and achieved over 400 career wins. Beyond his coaching accomplishments, he served as the school system’s athletic director for 23 years, overseeing the growth and development of athletic programs and fostering opportunities for student-athletes across multiple sports. His long-standing commitment to both coaching and administration left a lasting legacy on the school community, shaping countless athletes and contributing to the overall success of Prince George athletics.

These representatives of our community will be forever enshrined in the Prince George County Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame during a special ceremony on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Prince George High School in the Commons area, located at 7801 Laurel Spring Road. The evening will begin with a social from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by dinner and an induction ceremony.

Recent Inductions

In 2023, the PGCPS Athletic Hall of Fame inducted a tremendous group of individuals and teams featuring icons of Prince George High School's athletic history. The class comprised the following individuals and teams: West Lescanec, Henry Freeman, Shareese Woods-Hicks, Mickey Roberts, Wayne Collins, Reverend Robert Livesay, the 2018 State Championship Baseball Team, and the 2018 State Championship Softball Team.
