Student members of David A. Harrison Elementary School’s Student Council Association (SCA) recently visited Ronald McDonald House Charities in Richmond to deliver donations collected during their spring “Stock the House” service project.
As part of the initiative, students organized and contributed essential household items to support families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Prior to the visit, SCA members also used proceeds raised from Smencil and Backpack Buddy sales to purchase toys and games for the organization’s toy closet. Students worked within a set budget, thoughtfully selecting items to meet the needs of families served by RMHC.
During the visit, students toured the facility’s common areas and learned more about the organization’s mission to provide comfort, care, and support to families with children receiving medical treatment. The experience offered students valuable insight into the impact of community partnerships and service.
Students also learned about additional ways the community can support RMHC, including donations generated through McDonald’s Happy Meals, rounding up purchases at participating restaurants, and collecting aluminum pop tabs, which are recycled to raise funds for the organization.
The visit served as both a meaningful conclusion to the service project and a powerful learning experience, reinforcing the importance of giving back and supporting families in need.
This latest service project continues a tradition of community service for the Bears of David A. Harrison Elementary School. In November of 2025, the school’s annual food drive, similarly hosted by the SCA with support from the whole Harrison community, hauled in nearly 3,600 food items for the Prince George County Food Bank.
