Grades 3-8 Reading & Mathematics Growth Assessments
Who: Students enrolled in grades 3-8 mathematics and reading during the 2022-2023 school year.
What: Legislation passed by the General Assembly requires the implementation of growth assessments in reading and mathematics in grades 3-8. The assessments will measure students' knowledge current grade level content to establish a baseline from which teachers are able to begin instruction. While the growth assessments are not official SOL tests, and no official score will be reported, the administration of these assessments will look very similar to SOL tests. These results of these assessments will be used to determine student growth when compared to results of the related SOL assessment administered later in the year. When: September 26-30, 2022*
January 30-February 2, 2023*
*Specific dates and times of each test may differ between school buildings.
Where: All growth assessments will be administered in secure testing environments within the school buildings.
Why: The growth assessments administered in fall 2022 will be used as baseline data to begin the 2022-2023 school year, while the assessments administered during the winter of 2023 will students' growth since the beginning of the year and help guide teachers' instruction as students work toward the administration of the SOL tests.
