Please Share Your Thoughts on Being Named Teacher of the Year & What This Recognition Means to You.
Being recognized as Teacher of the Year by my peers is certainly an honor! I work with so many wonderful educators! It is so hard to pick one that is better than another, but I am humbled that so many feel I am good enough to deserve such recognition.
What Inspired You to Enter the World of Teaching and Education?
I have always wanted to be an educator. Ever since I was young, all I ever thought I wanted to do was teach. It never occured to me to do anything else and I really do not know what else I would do. I have had so many wonderful teachers that helped me throughout my own education. They taught me several things that I try to teach my students each year.
Finally, What Do You Consider the Most Important Lesson You Help Students Learn?
I try to have my students realize that they need to do things at their own pace. Not everyone can pick up on new concepts quickly and not everyone can learn everything on the first try. Sometimes the struggle is beneficial, even if they don't see it in the moment. Most importantly, I want my students to know that they are cared for, not only when I have them in class, but when they leave my room and continue their academic journey.
