Thousands of Prince George County Public Schools students returned to the classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds of the district’s campuses, signaling the successful start of the 2026-27 School Year on Monday, August 24, 2026. 

Throughout the morning, students and families were welcomed to their respective schools by waiting teachers and administrators, central office staff, and members of the Prince George County School Board. Alongside staff, community volunteers offered a hand in a variety ways, including greeting those arriving and providing treats to faculty and staff to start the day.

Over 11 weeks removed from the culminating celebration of the 2025-26 School Year, Prince George High School’s graduation ceremony, Monday’s successful opening day represents several months of preparation by instructional and support staff during the summer months. In addition to facility care over the last nearly three months, hundreds of district staff participated in a homegrown professional development experience earlier this month named IgnitePG. Since 2023, IgnitePG has provided engaging sessions aimed at both specific departments and broad instructional and support-related topics with the goal of preparing staff for the start of the school year. 

Families are encouraged to review the following tips and suggestions, and reach out to their child’s school if they have any questions.

Back-to-School Guide: New to PGCPS’ websites, our Back-to-School guide has a variety of resources and information for families as the year gets underway, including supply lists, bell schedules, information about student means, and much more. This information is available on all school website home pages.

Synergy ParentVUE: ParentVUE, our parent portal platform, will give families access to near real-time grades, attendance, and other data about their children, allowing them to see information about all of their children from a single login. Families can visit their child’s school website and select ParentVUE from the menu to access this. During the first week of school, all families are encouraged to log into ParentVUE to make sure details, including phone numbers and other information, is correct at the start of the year.

Stay Connected with ParentSquare: PGCPS uses ParentSquare, a leading communications platform aimed at keeping our school community informed and connected. With ParentSquare, parents will receive all school and classroom messages in one place and translated into their preferred language—whether by email, text, app, or web. To ensure they receive updates from PGCPS and their child’s school, parents should review their contact information and reach out if changes are needed.

2026-27 Student Code of Conduct: As we have in previous years, each student will receive a physical copy of the handbook and families will be required to return the back page of the handbook signed by a parent/guardian to their child's homeroom teacher / first block teacher no later than September 3, 2026.

New Websites Launched: This school year, PGCPS’ families will notice an improved website experience, with a focus on accessibility and ease-of-use for users. All of the division’s campuses now have new websites that feature useful information at a glance, including meal menus, bell schedules, and staff directories, along with standardized menus to make navigation simple.

Have Student Medical Questions: Families with student medical needs are encouraged to visit our Health Services Department website to find their child’s school nurse and how to contact them. Additionally, our Health Services Department website has links to key forms and documents for student medical needs, including the Virginia School Entrance Form, Medication Authorization Form, and more.

School Attendance: Start the year off with positive school attendance habits, making a commitment to BE HERE everyday! Remember, absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school. Free & Reduced-Cost Meals: To learn more about how to apply for free and reduced-price meals for the 2026-27 School Year, visit the Food & Nutrition Services website. Families can find links to apply online and more information about how to apply for free and reduced-price meals. As a reminder, those families who applied and were approved last year, the application is good for the first 30 days of school. Last year’s application will expire on September 30, 2026.

Meal Prices: Meal prices for the 2026-27 School Year are as follows: Breakfast: $2.00, Lunch (K-5): $3.35, Lunch (6-12): $3.50, and Reduced-Price Meals: $0.00 for Breakfast & Lunch.

Student Meal Menus: Individual school menus can be found on each of the district’s school websites. To view all school menus, families can visit the district’s MealViewer portal. 

New Student Registration: Student registrations for the 2026-2027 School Year have resumed with limited appointments. Visit the district's Student Registration portal for more information, including an overview of the required information for registration.
