The Food & Nutrition Services Department supports student health, wellness, and academic success by providing nutritious, high-quality meals in a welcoming environment. The department serves breakfast and lunch each school day and works to ensure students have access to meals that meet federal nutrition standards while offering choices that appeal to a variety of tastes and dietary needs.
Food & Nutrition Services oversees meal planning, food preparation, food safety, nutrition compliance, and cafeteria operations across the division. The department also manages meal account services, free and reduced-price meal applications, and nutrition-related communications for families.
Beyond serving meals, the department is committed to creating positive dining experiences that help students stay energized, focused, and ready to learn. Through the dedication of its cafeteria teams, Food & Nutrition Services plays an important role in supporting the well-being of every student each day.

2025-26 Meal Applications
Please fill out the meal application below for the 2025-2026 school year. If you applied and were approved last year, your application is good for the first 30 days of school. Last year's application will expire on September 30, 2025. If you have not filled out a meal application, or have NOT received a letter saying your were approved, you MUST fill out an application or send your child with lunch or lunch money on the first day of school. Our Mission
The purpose of Prince George Food & Nutrition Department is to promote and improve children's physical, psychological and scholastic well being through healthy school meals served in a positive, cheerful manner and through sound nutrition education.
About Our Department
The Food & Nutrition Services Department is made up of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.
Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.
Students will return to paying for meals unless approved for free or reduced meals via application or direct certification. The state of Virginia is going to pick up the cost of the reduced meals. So, if approved for reduced meals, the cost will be $0.00 per meal. Breakfast is $1.90 and lunch is $3.20 (K-5) & $3.35 (6-12). We will also be participating in Breakfast After the Bell/Second Chance Breakfast. If your child is late to school, please make sure they know they have the opportunity to still pick up breakfast on their way to class. We want to make sure every child has an opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast. We do strongly encourage parents to fill out the meal application for their child(ren) this school year.
The school nutrition program is a totally self-supporting program. The program receives no local tax funding or funding from the school system. The program is expected to make all of its own money. Funds are generated from the sales that are made each day in the school cafeterias and monthly federal reimbursements.
From these funds, the program pays all of the salaries and benefits for our Food & Nutrition employees, purchases all foods, supplies, and equipment. We have many repairs on our existing equipment that always needs to be taken care of. As you can see, the school nutrition program is operating a business. This is information that most people do not realize and I feel it is important to share with our families.
We hope that your child(ren) enjoy the experience of eating breakfast and lunch with us, we appreciate their business. If your child does not eat school meals we would invite them to give us a try. We would love to have them as our customer.
